HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital of Sarasota to Build Ramp

HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital of Sarasota, in partnership with the Suncoast Center for Independent Living, will help a local amputee achieve more independence by building a wheelchair ramp for his home.

A few years ago, John Keane’s right leg was amputated above the knee because of his neuropathy. Following the amputation, getting up and down the stairs leading to his front door proved to be challenging and he was forced to scoot himself up and down the stairs. The donated wheelchair ramp will give him more independence by allowing him to access his home more easily.

“Helping patients achieve independence after a disability or injury is one of our missions at HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital of Sarasota,” said Marcus Braz, CEO of HealthSouth Sarasota. “We are pleased to partner with the Suncoast Center for Independent Living to reach out to John and help him achieve the independence he desires.”

Braz will join members of HealthSouth Sarasota’s leadership team and staff on Thursday, March 20 at 1:00 p.m. to build the ramp at Keane’s home.
